Year 3/4 - Bindon

Picture 1

Welcome to Bindon Class (Year 3 and 4). Mrs Williams will be in class Monday to Thursday as class teacher and Mrs Rimmer will be in class every Friday.

We welcome parents and family members into the Bindon classroom Monday mornings from 8:45-9:00 to look at what the children have been learning at school. This is a lovely opportunity to look at books, the writing wall and displays with your child.

In the Autumn term, we were busy learning about Ancient Greece. We thoroughly enjoyed immersing ourselves in our class texts by Anthony Browne and Tom’s Sausage Lion by Michael Morpurgo. During our PE lessons, the children developed their football and rugby skills and demonstrated their gymnastics abilities in a class competition at the end of the term. We worked hard during our music lessons to learn to play glockenspiels, preparing for what was a fantastic performance in the Christmas concert!

P.E.

Your child will have P.E. lessons on Tuesday and Wednesday every week. Please can the children have their kit in school every day (school PE shirt and shorts, socks and trainers, tracksuits for outside) as there may be chances throughout the week to participate in sports activities both inside and outside. Please remember that long hair needs to be tied up and ear-rings removed.

Water and snacks

We would ask that you provide your child with a named water bottle, this way pupils have access to water all day. Please include a healthy snack in your child’s lunch box if they need something to keep them going until lunch. If you would like your child to have milk please contact the office for the appropriate forms.

Homework

Homework will be sent home on a Thursday in your child’s homework folder and is due in on the following Wednesday. It will alternate between an English task and a Maths task, with the occasional punctuation or grammar task to consolidate skills learnt in class that week. The children will earn a sticker on their smiley chart for completing their homework. Once their chart is full, they will choose a prize from the box.

Spellings

The children will be following the ‘Big Spellings’ scheme and throughout the year they will be assessed to determine which word list they will be given. The word lists will be stuck into their homework diaries each Thursday to take home to learn. Every morning at school they will complete different activities using these words and then tested on a Thursday.

Reading

Now the children are in KS2 they will be responsible for changing their own reading book from the correct colour code. They will all take part in guided reading sessions each week and be heard individually by an adult as frequently as possible. Reading at home aloud to an adult is very important for developing their fluency, vocabulary and comprehension skills. Every Monday, the children will earn a sticker on their smiley chart if an adult signs to confirm they have read at home at least 3 times the previous week. Once their chart is full, they will choose a prize from the box.
