Lulworth and Winfrith CE Primary School is an inclusive school which is underpinned by mutual respect.  We have high expectations and aspirations for all our children and provide the very best education we can for all, irrespective of their educational or medical needs.

Special Educational Needs and Disability(SEND) provision at Lulworth & Winfrith is flexible and varied in order that all our children have equal opportunities to access the full curriculum, with reasonable modification or support. This may take the form of adapting the learning environment, providing specific resources or a learning support assistant working with a child in class or for individual or small group intervention work.

Our aim is to work closely with parents/carers to ensure we have high aspirations and the best outcomes for our children with SEND. We have an 'open door' policy, so parents/carers can share any concerns at the earliest stage initially with their child's class teacher and then the SENDCo. We value regular, extended meetings with families and professionals taking a collaborative approach to review progress for the individual child.

By working with outside agencies and therapists to acquire extra support for children who have specific needs enhances are universal offer and targeted support whilst the child is in the school environment. As a staff, we regularly undertake ongoing professional development to enable us to meet the needs of our children.

Disability

The school’s admissions policy is inclusive and places are offered to applicants irrespective of sex, religion, ethnicity or country of origin, disability or academic ability.

All parts of the main building are accessible to wheelchair users. There are disabled toilets and we provide disabled parking close to the main entrance.  Our Accessibility Plan is reviewed annually, where needed, and where a specific need arises, plans will be made to address any particular needs as appropriate.

Ours is an inclusive school where all children, including those with disabilities, are involved in every aspect of school life both inside and outside of the classroom.  Wherever possible, specialist knowledge, support and/or equipment will be obtained to support children.  We will seek support from Specialist Services and professional to ensure that all  children are correctly catered for.

Here, at our school, we always:

  • use our best endeavours to make sure that a child with SEN gets the support they need – this means doing everything we can to meet children and young people’s needs
  • ensure that children and young people with SEN engage in activities of the school alongside pupils who do not have SEN
  • inform parents throughout any decisions made about SEN
  • adapt provision to meet the needs of the child to enable them to access all curriculum areas
  • inspire our children to have high aspiration
