  • Pupil and Service Premium

At Lulworth and Winfrith CofE Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstances. The Pupil Premium is additional government funding provided to schools to help raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and to support them in overcoming potential barriers to learning.

We use our Pupil Premium funding carefully to provide targeted academic support, high-quality teaching, pastoral care and enrichment opportunities that enable pupils to thrive both in and beyond the classroom. Funding may be used to support interventions in reading, writing and mathematics, develop children's emotional wellbeing, provide access to educational visits and extracurricular activities, and ensure that all pupils can fully participate in school life.

Our approach is informed by a thorough understanding of the needs of individual pupils and is regularly reviewed to ensure that funding has the greatest possible impact. We are committed to promoting high aspirations, building confidence and resilience, and ensuring that every child is supported to flourish academically, socially and emotionally.

Details of our current Pupil Premium Strategy, expenditure and the impact of previous funding can be found below.

    Service Families

Lulworth and Winfrith CofE Primary School is proud to serve a thriving and unique military community. Between 40% and 50% of our pupils come from Service families, bringing a wealth of experiences, resilience and diversity that enriches our school community. We recognise the many positive qualities that military children develop, including adaptability, confidence, independence and the ability to build friendships quickly. These strengths make a valuable contribution to school life and help create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

The Government provides Service Pupil Premium (SPP) funding to schools to support children from Service families. This funding recognises that military life can sometimes present additional challenges for children, such as parental deployment, frequent moves, transitions between schools, or periods of separation from loved ones. The funding is intended to help schools provide pastoral and emotional support to ensure every Service child thrives both academically and socially.

At Lulworth and Winfrith, we are committed to understanding and supporting the needs of our Service children and their families. We work closely with parents, carers and the wider military community to ensure that children feel valued, supported and connected throughout their time with us.

One of the ways we provide this support is through our links with Little Troopers, a charity dedicated to supporting military children. Through these connections, we are able to access resources and opportunities that help children understand and navigate the unique aspects of Service life.

In addition, we run a Little Troopers after-school club each half term, providing a welcoming space where Service children can meet others with shared experiences, build friendships and take part in enjoyable activities. The club is led by an experienced member of staff who has first-hand understanding of military family life through her own experience as a military wife. This personal understanding enables her to provide meaningful support, encouragement and guidance for the children who attend.

We celebrate the important role that our Service families play in our school community and are committed to ensuring that every child feels supported, understood and proud of their connection to the Armed Forces. Together, we foster a strong sense of belonging, resilience and community that benefits all of our pupils.

SSAFA https://www.ssafa.org.uk helps the armed forces community in a number of ways, though their focus is on providing direct support to individuals in need of physical or emotional care.
