The school participates in a variety of competitions organised by The Purbeck School. This gives the children the opportunity to build on team working skills and also to get to know children from others schools in the Purbeck Cluster.
It is important to note that although we participate in a vast majority of these organised events there may be instances where we are not able to send a team to represent the school. Parents are also to be made aware that whilst we endeavour to include as many children as possible into school team events, not all children from that year group will be chosen.
If you would like any further information please speak to Mrs Williams.
On Tuesday 4th December, we were treated to Badminton taster sessions from Community Badminton. During the day, Will Bedford ran sessions for all the children on both sites. We enjoyed practicing our skills using pom-poms and net hoops and challenging each other to beat our keepy uppy scores. Will coached everyone in hitting shuttlecocks over the net. Children were then told about further opportunities on Saturdays at Purbeck Sports Centre, Wareham. Please see www.dorset.communitybadminton.org for more details.
Athletic Competition - Yr 5 & Yr 6
On 22nd November, a squad of Year 5 & 6 children competed in the Indoor Athletic Competition at Purbeck School. The girls got us off to a fantastic start by winning their heat in the Obstacle Relay. Throughout the afternoon, all the children performed to the best of their ability and tried their best in every event. During spare moments between rounds, the children were sharing their knowledge, coaching each other and practicing new techniques for events such as long jump, vertical jump and triple jump.
We are so proud to announce that the school came third place our of six schools. A fantastic achievement for our pupils. Well done!
Tag Rugby Tournament Yr 5 & Yr 6
We are very proud of our Year 5 & 6 Rugby team who represented the school at the Tag Rugby Tournament at the Swanage and Wareham Rugby Club on Thursday 8th November.
On arrival, we were asked to lend some of our members to create a sixth team of "Barbarians". Thank you to Seb, Kaleb and Sam for representing our school in this team. They showed tremendous sportsmanship in their collaboration with children from other schools and scored a number of tries for the Barbarians.
The Lulworth and Winfrith team secured third place overall by winning 3 out of their 6 games. They showed great determination, team work and perseverance throughout the tournament.
A huge thank you to the team's coach - Mr Trent who has volunteered to train and coach the team during lunchtimes and at the tournament. The children have all benefitted hugely from his advice, knowledge and coaching.

January 2017 Sport Update
Children from year groups 4, 5 and 6 entered the Purbeck Cross Country event on a chilly January afternoon. Not phased by the weather, the opposition or the course, they ran like the wind.
Finn (Year 6) and Matilda (Year 4) came in first place, for the second year in a row.
Also placed within the top five positions were Ellie (Year 6), Lily (Year 5) and Dylan (Year 6).
Whatever their final position, they all showed determination and excellent sporting ability; we are proud of them all.
Year 6 show off their skills in the Purbeck Primary School Handball tournament.
December 2016 Sports Update available to view at the bottom of this news page
Match Update In the first half term two football teams have entered the Purbeck Tournament.
The Year 5 and 6 Mixed Football team came 4th out of 8 teams.
A great result: winning 3 out of the 7 matches.
Well done to:
Lily, Ellie, Jack, Anastasiia, Josh, Toby, William, Henry, Amelia, Finn, Dylan
Dylan was awarded ‘Man of the Tournament’ for showing superb football skills
but also passing to other players and setting up goals for them.
We then entered a very enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 All Girls Team and again
they came 4th in the Tournament. They all showed great commitment and put in a
fantastic performance, each finding their place in the team as the tournament went on.
Well done to: Ellie, Megan, Edie, Olivia, Jazzy, Issy, Teaenna, Talia, Kerry and Amelia.
Lions’ Club Swim for Charity - Sunday 9th October 2016
Well done to the following children who represented the school brilliantly in the Swimarathon.
There was fierce competition between the teams of 5 girls and 5 boys as to
which team could swim the furthest.
In the end both teams were able to complete a total of 49 laps of 50 metres.
Such was the quality and stamina shown by the children that a member of the public
standing in the gallery was convinced they were from a swimming club!
Lulworth and Winfrith Strike Gold in Swimming Gala
Children from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 took part in the annual Purbeck Swimming Gala on May 5th.
For a small school we were extremely successful.
Four children won a total of five races;
Finn won the 50m breaststroke and the 25m butterfly,
William won the 50m backstroke,
Lily won the 25m backstroke.
Even though the gala was officially a Year 4, 5 and 6 gala, we decided to enter a few Year 3s to get some valuable experience.
One of them, Kieran took part in the Year 4 breaststroke race…..and won!
In my memory it’s the first time a Year 3 has won a Year 4 swimming race at the gala.
Kieran, as well as all that took part, have very exciting futures in swimming.
We also had many silver and bronze performances.
Many children were taking part in their first gala, a nerve-wracking experience,
they showed so much courage and determination.
It was also great seeing how the children cheered on their school-mates.
Well done to all children that took part and thanks to parents for transporting your children to The Purbeck School.
Well done to: Luke, Ethan, Freddie, Finn, William, Henry, Anastasiia, Lily, Kieran, Harry and Alfie.
We have been making the most of our huge new hall at Lulworth to practice our gymnastics skills.
We tried out counter-balances on mats before moving onto larger equipment including our fantastic fold out apparatus.
Children Try Out New Gym Equipment
The junior children have had a go on the brand new gymnastics equipment. The equipment includes new wall-mounted equipment, new mats, various gym horses, balance beams and benches. Through the Primary Sports Funding the children are also getting top class coaching by British Gymnastics coach, Hannah Nicolson. The class teachers will also be up-skilling themselves
by team-teaching with Hannah.
‘ I love the new equipment, I can’t wait for gymnastics club to start!’ Jazzy, Year 4
‘ I enjoy doing balances in gymnastics, I think the new equipment will make me want to do gym all the time!’ Henry, Year 4
On Wednesday 23rd March 2016, children from Years 3 and 4 were selected to take part in a
Rugby Megafest at The LEAF Academy in Bournemouth.
With the help of some RFU coaches and secondary PE teachers the children
tried out new skills as well as mastering the skills they have.
The Dorset School Games final was being held alongside the event and it was a great opportunity for our
children to be inspires by the best rugby, handball and beach volleyball players in the county.
During the opening ceremony the children got to listen to Abi Chamberlin, the England Ladies rugby captain.
They also heard from three children from the Dorset Schools who had formally been competitors at the School Games,
but were now representing England for volleyball.
Thanks to Mr Miller for driving the mini-bus.
Sport Relief Mile
he children in Years 3 and 4 took part in a Sport Relief Mile on Friday1 8th March.
The children did brilliantly and raised £65 for this fantastic cause.
Well done to all involved and thank you for you generous donations.
We were mentioned on the Sport Relief programme on Friday night/Saturday morning (at 12.15am!).
Purbeck Cross Country February 2016
Children from Lulworth and Winfrith Primary School performed amazingly at the
annual area cross country championships held at The Purbeck School.
A total of 21 juniors took part in the races.
Out of the six races Lulworth and Winfrith had three individual champions and won two team competitions.
A fantastic feat considering we are the smallest school in the area.
The Year 4 girls team won their race with three girls in the top ten.
The Year 5 boys won their team competition, also with three boys in the top ten.
Matilda Jeavons won the Year 4 girls race despite being in Year 3! She certainly has a promising running future. Ellie Bailey retained her crown as Purbeck Champion with another fantastic performance, especially in the final stretch to the finish. Finn Wilde also retained his crown as Purbeck Champion, with the most dominant performance of the day, winning by at least 200 metres.
All the children who took part in last year’s race improved on their position (Ellie and Finn being retaining champions!). Every child who took part for the school did themselves proud, putting all their effort into the race and, as always, representing the school brilliantly.
Well done to the following children:
Year 3: Alyssa, Matilda, Charlie, Alfie, Kieran and Freddie
Year 4: Amelia, Jazzy, Anastasiia, Alicia and Henry
Year 5: Jack, Arran, William, Ciaran, Finn, Ellie, Alfie and Sebastian.
Year 6: Freddie and Ethan

Year 5/6 Football Tournament: 27th November 2014
The football team were unbeaten in this annual tournament. We drew four games and won one game which was enough to get third place overall but the only team to remain unbeaten. Luke, Oscar and Aidan proved to be a very stubborn defence. Kieran and Billy played the ball brilliantly in midfield with Freddie and Eva proving to be very quick strikers.
A special well done goes to Year 4 Aidan, who was drafted in at the last minute as a few players were unable to attend. No-one would have noticed he is a year 4, as he was always strong in tackles.
The sixth form referees all agreed that Billy was player of the tournament with some fantastic goals. Well done to the team.
I will be organising some games for the team in the new year.
'Sportshall Athletics': 13th November 2014
Children from Years 4, 5 and 6 ran, jumped and threw brilliantly to finish 3rd overall in the
Purbeck area 'Sportshall Athletics' competition.
In a very noisy sportshall at the Purbeck Sports Centre, 12 children cheered on each other in a variety of athletic events.
Unfortunately only the team that comes first goes on to the level 3 (county) championships.
The children represented the school brilliantly and I am confident the children enjoyed the experience.
Year 4 Tag Rugby: 6th November 2014
Children from Year 4 enjoyed some expert coaching delivered by Sports Leaders from The Purbeck School.
The children learnt new skills and put these into practice in a non-competitive tournament at the end of the session.
Well done to all the children that took part.
Thanks also to the Sports Leaders and Miss Hamblin for another well organised event.
Quick Sticks Hockey Squad - 23rd October 2014
Congratulations must also be given to the Quick sticks hockey squad that attended a hockey festival at Purbeck School on October 23rd. For many children this was their first opportunity to represent the school. Theywere very enthusiastic and proved to be a good match for other Purbeck Primary Schools, well done!
The Girls Football Team are Purbeck Champions - 16th October 2014
The Year 5/6 girls football were victorious in the Purbeck schools football tournament held at the Purbeck School on Thursday 16th October. The team played Bovington Primary, Stoborough Primary and Wareham St Mary Primary and finished the tournament unbeaten. The highlight was a 5-0 win against Wareham St Mary, captain and player of the tournament Eva Neat scoring a hat-trick with Trinity Jones scoring the other two goals.
The girls played brilliantly as a team and were all very aware of their specific jobs on the field. Goalkeeper Katie Monaghan made a brilliant save in the first game. Defenders Tia-Louise Homer and Holly Miller were like a brick wall, not letting anyone past in all three games. Midfielders Eva Neat and Trinity Jones did fantastically in both attack and defence covering a lot of ground in all three of their games.
A special well done goes to Sydney and Summer Jones, who are actually in Year 4, but stepped up brilliantly with absolutely no fear. Striker Rosie Jeavons was fantastic at holding the ball up and working with the midfielders to create chances. Hard-work, good communication and great tactical awareness were the key to their victory. I was also very proud as they were the first team to shake hands with their opponents. Hopefully this is the first of many sporting successes this year.
Primary Leadership Academy - 25th September 2014
10 Children from Year 5 & 6 took part in the annual Primary Leadership Academy held at the Purbeck School. The Children learnt new games and activities to teach their friends back at school. They also had a planning session where they identified the importance of regular exercise and communication skills. A number of other schools attended and some of the activities included working with children from other schools. The children from Lulworth & Winfrith represented the school brilliantly (as usual). They are now Bronze Sports Ambassadors.
Purbeck Netball Festival – Spring 2014
Boys and girls from Year 3 and 4 went to The Purbeck School for the inaugural netball festival. The afternoon comprised of two parts; a one hour coaching session with Purbeck Sports Leaders, then an hour to try out new skills in game situations. It was a great afternoon with the children gaining new skills and reinforcing skills learnt in PE lessons and Mrs Buckland’s netball club. Our assigned coach was former pupil Harriet Miller who passed on her expertise to the younger children brilliantly. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, especially the competitive games at the end of the session. Next year we hope to enter the Purbeck Netball League for Year 5 and 6.
Cross Country - 27th February 2014
A strong team of 13 from Lulworth and Winfrith Primary travelled to the Purbeck School for the area cross country championships. I have been asking for an area cross country race for a while so it’s great that one has been organised, let’s hope it becomes an annual fixture.
The course was just over a mile long, mainly flat around the school playing fields and astro-turf. The races were in Year groups, mixing the boys and the girls. It was a fantastic event with over 100 children taking part altogether.
Results can be found by this link: http://www.purbeckeducation.org/?p=558 (sorry about the spellings, they were written down at the end of the race when the children were probably very out of breath!))
Well done to the following children for taking part: Finn, Luke, Rosie, Holly, Maeve, Billy, Ben, Kieran, Oscar, Lillie, Izzy, Lotte and Kian.
